Frequently Asked Questions

How do I recycle electronics and computer equipment (eCycling)?

Baltimore City offers residents a comprehensive electronics recycling program with a drop-off location close to your home.  Convenient Citizen drop-off centers are opened Monday through Saturday during the day. (Click here for sites and hours)

The program is contracted through a local Baltimore company. Collected electronics are either refurbished for re-use or dismantled and disposed of in accordance with U.S. Environmental Protections Agency (EPA) guidelines.

The following electronics should be ‘ecycled’; cell phones, chips and cards, circuit boards, computer processing units (CPUs), electronic phones,  keyboards, laptops, mice, monitors, televisions (any type), printers, printer cables, power cords and scanners.

You may know that electronics don’t go in the landfill because they often contain toxins that leach from landfills into the environment.  According to the U.S. Environmental Protections Agency (EPA), 80% of electronics get dumped into landfills rather than disposed of properly.  P.C. monitors and T.V. picture tubes alone contain on average four pounds of lead, a toxin known to cause brain damage in humans.
