Frequently Asked Questions

How do I recycle plastic bags?

Those plastic bags that have been so convenient and plentiful are now considered an environmental problem.  Over 100 billion bags are used in the U. S. alone and sadly, though convenient, only 5% are recycled.  Plastic bags have new lives once recycled into products like decking and siding. Grocery stores collect the bags and bale them into large blocks and sell them to companies like TREX who make outdoor products.

Here’s how residents can recycle plastic bags at local grocery stores:

1. Plastic grocery bags
2. Clean dry cleaning plastic bags
3. Paper towel and toilet paper clean and dry plastic bags
4. Newspaper plastic bags

Bring them to the following grocery stores and keep these bags out of our waterways:

ACME, Food Lion, Giant Eagle, Giant, Redners, Shopper’s, Walmart and Superfresh.

Better yet, buy some sturdy tote bags and you won’t have a zillion plastic bags stuffed in that cabinet, and you’ll be helping the environment.
