AFRO Clean Block Competition 2010

Baltimore, Maryland – June 16, 2010 - The Afro-American Newspapers are once again delighted to announce the launch of the 2010 AFRO Clean-Green Block Campaign. This year marks the 76th campaign, continuing the oldest urban environmental program in the country and the 3rd year in official partnership with the City of Baltimore and the Initiative for a Cleaner Greener Baltimore.

Since its inception as a simple contest to keep the youth of Baltimore involved in civil action during the summer months, Clean Block is a Baltimore institution for both past and present generations. It is our hope that this year’s campaign will once again serve as a reminder that neighborhood pride and cooperative community effort are just some of the things that make BaltimoreCity great.

We look forward to registration and participation from community organizations, block captains, religious and social groups, and even individuals. With your help the 2010 AFRO Clean-Green Block Campaign will be the most successful in recent memory. We look forward to judging the blocks and announcing this year’s winners in the coming months.

Started in 1934, the AFRO Clean Block Competition is the oldest existing environmental program in the nation.  It went “Green” and officially partnered with the City of Baltimore and the Initiative for a Cleaner Greener Baltimore in 2008.

All Baltimore neighborhoods are encouraged to participate.  Prizes for the winning block will be announced on September 8.
